Hi everyone,
Our Open House will be this Saturday from 9-12. We will not have a meeting, so come anytime!
A few things we discussed at our September meeting:
Unless you are using a knitting loom, do not use double strands when crocheting or knitting a hat. If you are adding a different color as a stripe, you will drop the one main color strand then pick up the strand for the stripe, then pick up the stand of main color. We had about a dozen of double strands of yarn turned in and they were way too thick and lost their stretch. We had some hats that were way too small. Try it on and if it fits your head, then it will fit theirs.
The fleece hat with the wild fringe on top were not popular, so please stop making those. We are still finding brown hats and the kids are still not taking them.
In the September Open House email, I mentioned the mildewy pillowcases. After washing about 300, we found some cotton and flannel ones that were not serged or a french seamed and tons of raveled fabric. Your seams need to be finished with either a serger, french seams or a tight zig-zag. This would also include clothes. Obviously french seams would not work, but a serged or a tight zig-zag would be sufficient. Use caution when ironing and if using steam, make sure it has thoroughly dried out before bringing it to Open House. Items are immediately boxed up and will not have an opportunity to dry out
At this time, we will not be having kits or supplies for bracelets and keychains–for either boys or girls. Our leftover inventory was pretty good and we will reassess the first of the year. If you have supplies and would like to make some, go ahead. We did have girl bracelets that were way too small (someone took them to redo) and the boys found the adjustable ones a little too confusing so we are planning to stick with the stretchy bracelets for them.
If you are covering the headbands, please use Alene’s or E6000 glue to attach your decor. We found the adhesive back tape was not lasting. The girls loved the fuzzy embellishments.
We ran out of bookmarks, so we need lots! Leftover yarn is perfect and I will have a handout of scrap yarn ideas.
We will have a sit down meeting in November and no meeting in December and January, so stock up on your supplies. Except pillowcases….. the same September guidelines will apply. Please take only 4 kits and then after 11:00 you can take as many as you want. We will have no limits in November.
We will have sew days as follows:
BTSCD Thursday October 24 9:30-1:30ish
35th Ave Sew and Vac Sunday October 27 10-3
We hope to see you on Saturday!
Sandy
