If you’re familiar with Back to School Clothing Drive, then you know that we’re passionate about our mission: “To provide new school outfits and uniforms, backpacks, and school supplies to children in need.” You probably also know that one of the largest — and most well-known ways— we accomplish it is through our “New Clothes, New Beginnings” annual distribution held each July at Grand Canyon University. In a typical year, approximately 5,000 Title I public elementary school students are treated to a fun day of “shopping” for all the things they need for a successful school year like clothes, shoes, and backpacks full of school supplies and personal hygiene items. Unfortunately, this year’s event – like so many others around the globe – had to be canceled due to Covid-19. But that doesn’t mean that we abandoned our mission. Instead, we got creative, developed a contingency plan, and then worked with our partner schools districts to make sure all of the items found their way to students! That’s right, even the one-of-a-kind clothes and accessories that are hand-made by our corps of volunteer seamstresses were made available. We are scheduled to be done with the distribution by the end of this week and we know the kids and their parents couldn’t be happier. Due to the pandemic, more families than ever before need our help and – with your help – we’re delivering!!
