A big thank you to all who attended our last Open House. We want to thank all of you for the quality of the items being turned in. We are doing an awesome job and the kids will greatly benefit from all our efforts. Please remember all items attached to a piece of clothing or accessory, need to be securely attached. For most items, appliques, buttons, fasteners (such as Velcro tabs) need to be sewn on. If you are in doubt, please wash your item to assure that nothing falls off during the laundry process.
We welcomed the Girl Scouts, and we purchased 4 cases of cookies from them. We must have all been hungry! The proceeds from their cookies will be used to fund their camp fees and various activities and to help pay for the meeting fees that they pay at a local school. If you purchased cookies but didn’t take the cookies, those cookies will be donated to the MANA House. The MANA House helps homeless veterans from all branches of the military. Thanks to all of you for helping us support this Girl Scout troop.
Our annual appreciation luncheon was help in place of our January meeting at the Beatitudes Campus and was a huge success, and we have already scheduled our luncheon there for January 2020. Many, many thanks to BHHS Legacy, Jerry Wissink and Mary Cotterman for arranging this event for us.
Boy have I had a problem with emails! People just keep dropping off my email lists. If you know of anyone who hasn’t been receiving emails from me, please have them email me at [email protected] and I will add them back. Even Karl (our executive director) dropped off!
If you are taking any knit fabric from our shelves, please make sure you wash the fabric and then inspect it for holes before cutting out your garment. We have found that some of the older knits may have imperfections.
The latest inventory (prior to this Open House) and schedule of events has been added to our website.
We have decided to combine our Thursday Sew Days and Yarn it Forward Day into one day a month on the 4th Thursday of each month. They are noted on the event schedule as Sewing and Yarn Group. Times will be 9:30-1:30, but remember this is open/ended so come anytime you have available. We have both sewing machines and sergers you can use. You can also bring your lunch and snacks as we have a frig and microwave.
Our next Open House will be March 9 and Gloria Baldwin will show us how to turn lace into adorable hair clips, so please plan to stay after our meeting to see this process.
April 13 Open House will feature Cindy Adams and the knifty knitter. If you have any questions on how to make hats or learn different skills to make hats, please plan on staying after the meeting.
35th Ave Sew and Vac will again sponsor us in creating pillowcases for the boys at their store on April 20 from 9:00-3:00. I will need volunteers to answer questions about what we do and show shoppers how to make pillowcases. 35th Ave will furnish the sergers. Please email me if you can help out for a 3 hour shift, all day (we will furnish lunch) or what time you have available. Our goal is 100 pillowcases which has a value to us of $500.00!!
At our May 11 Open House, Will’s Sharpening will be there to sharpen items. Fees start at $4.00, and you will need to have your items in a ziplock bag with your name and cell number and he will sharpen them for you during our meeting.
Our annual BTSCD Gala Fundraiser will take place on May 18 at the Phoenix Art Museum. At times we do receive free seats, so if you would be interested in attending this fundraiser please email me with the number of tickets you would like and I will put you on a waiting list for the tickets.
Thank you for everything you do for the kids.
